Overcast, Snow but clear blue sky

Hi People,

i wnated to fly today from Prague to VIenna - ASE gave me a report: overcast, moderate snow visibility 3 sm. I start the FS - go to LKPR - its snowing there but only partly cloudy with clear blue sky around the airport. Does this make sense ?

Jim,

I had a similar condition at KATL yesterday, it was low visibility, light rain and overcast. When I landed rain was present in ASE and low visibility, but the clouds were cumulus and blue sky, When metars have overcast do you have a GRAY texture that will fill the sky?

The same type of question, why when overcast is reported you can see the ground after TO? To improve this would be such a major advance in realism.

Thanks

Hi,

ASE has no textures. It uses whatever textures you have installed in FS.

Because if the visibility is 10SM there is no visibility layer. Also it can depend on your computer, cloud settings in FS, cloud layers in ASE, and what you have your FPS locked to especially with FSX.

Hi Jim,

I am running ASE on Vista 32 with FSX. I have 5 cloud layers and my frames are locked to unlimited. My draw distance is 60 nm and I have 3D clouds with detail. I have my snapshots with the universal settings. On the graphics X cloud types I am at a lost as to which one would produced the types of overcast clouds I am looking for.

Thanks

Bob

Hi,

Lock your FPS to 25 in FSX and see what happens. Also, the textures really do not matter, only the data coming from AS.

Jim,

I have done all your suggestions and I have really good weather depiction in FSX. i have been really pleased with ASE the HiFi team has done an excellent job IMHO.

Having said that, the overcast cloud depiction on my system is just sub par. I get scattered gray clouds, something that looks like blue sky and just overall poor quality. I don't want to make additional changes, since I have a really good working ASE and FSX now.

I flew my LDS 767 to UUEE (Moscow) the other day in a snow storm, which was very interesting on approach with snow and clouds all around me. However once I landed and parked, there was a 800 foot ceiling overcast in the ASE airport report, but the sky in FSX was broken clouds and this bluish tent to the higher clouds. If there is anything to improve in the next update for me, the overcast situation would be really appreciated.

Overall I am very pleased with ASE and with FSUIPC (registered), I never get the S turn problem anymore and great winds aloft.

S Turn

Hi Bob,

"Overall I am very pleased with ASE and with FSUIPC (registered), I never get the S turn problem anymore and great winds aloft."

How did you get rid of the S turns - I noticed last night I am getting them in the LDS767?

Thanks,

Rob.

Main things are turbulence, and wind affects. I also have DWC on in ASE Try these and see if it also helps you.

thanks Bob - will try these settings.

What are your turbulence settings in ASE? I see some say to zero them out.

Rob,

My ASE wind settings are:

Direct Wind Control and Smoothing enabled
Wake Turbulence 10
Max Surface Wind 100
Min Wind Turbulence 0
Max Wind Turbulence 30
Min Wind Shear 0
Max Wind Shear 30
Thermals and Vertical Air (all) 0

Hope this helps

Hi Bob,

In FSX is cloud coverage set to maximum?

In ASE the only thing I would like you to change is move the cloud layer slider from 5 to 20 and see if that makes a difference.

To me it looks like the visibility textures are that color. I don't have the default textures installed to compare to. Slew above the cloud layers and see what you get looking downward.

Overcast

Hi Jim,

Took off today from OSL to LHR, as I climbed out overcast clouds that were gray appeared about 2000 feet. Looked good and then the clouds became heavy broken. Overall was a nice departure from a cloud standpoint, but still that blue on the ground is not very good for overcast condition, that is the one area that HiFi could improve. IMHO

Hi Bob, A weather program

Hi Bob,

A weather program does not controll how FSX renders it's graphics; that is all up to FSX. To change that, you need to use a graphics program for FSX such as our X Graphics.

Cloud Coverage

My cloud coverage is at maximum. My draw distance is 60 and 5 layers of clouds. The problem with 20 is any kind of heavy weather and a dense city below and the sim goes into "stutter" land. I hate to say this, but I can put up with "ugly" overcast than a stutter jumping LDS 767. I use to use 20 or so layers, but when I select default it goes back to 5 and I get NO stutters.

Got to find a better answer to this problem, hope you guys keep working on this.

Hi,

An experiment:

Don't start ASE, use the FSX TStorm Theme, use that LDS plane, fly over a dense city, and then report what happens.
