Intermittent Weather
Firstly, using ASA Build 431 with FS 9.1 and FSUIPC 3.90 (registered), using FSUIPC for wind/baro smoothing (still have issues w/DWC giving sudden, radical wind shifts). Secondly, ASA always reports the correct weather. The issue manifests itself in either of two ways: 1) have trouble initializing the weather - ASA is reporting correctly, but FS will report winds calm and std baro of 29.92. ASA has reported weather depiction completed, but it didn't take in the sim. Have tried multiple refreshes of ASA in combo with clearing all weather in FSUIPC; or 2) FS reports correctly, but during or shortly after climb out, winds (and clouds) disappear. ASA is reporting correctly, but the aircraft EHSI shows no wind and GS equal to TAS. Have deleted and rebuilt the FSUIPC.ini file to no avail. Seems to come and go randomly, but almost always pops back in on descent to final. I would suspect some random communication failure between ASA and FSUIPC, or between FSUIPC and FS. No obvious clues (at least to me) in the log files and it's got me baffled.

Hi, Reset FSUIPC to weather
Hi,
Reset FSUIPC to weather settings Off and see what happens. I realize this will remove the wind/baro settings.
Thanks,

Jim:
I'll try that again - I confess I didn't run an entire flight last time because I was experiencing instant wind shifts of 90-140 degrees and back again during climb-out with DWC enabled, so I terminated the flight. I assume one of the two must be active - either FSUIPC smoothing or DWC, correct? Thanks!

Hi, To control wind shifts,
Hi,
To control wind shifts, yes.

Today's Flight
Flying PMDG 737NG west out of KMCI. During 30 min flight I experienced 10 drop-outs of weather between FL160 and cruise level of 380. Each lasted between 5-10 sec. Also experienced 8 instantaneous wind shifts averaging 230 degrees each - shift and then revert within 1 - 2 sec. Wind shifts didn't neatly coincide with the weather drops. Before the flight, I set FSUIPC Weather Settings to Off and cleared all weather. ASA DWC was enabled. Got me puzzled - any hints or tips?

P.S. Checked the ASA log file and ASA was continuously transmitting the following to FSUIPC: "Sent DWC to FSUIPC: 297/31" which, give or take a couple of degrees, was correct for the prevailing winds at altitude. Apparently FSUIPC wasn't always paying attention as it would shift the winds to 080 (give or take) degrees and then rapidly back with almost rhythmic regularity. Seems like FSUIPC was "fighting" the DWC instruction and wanted to change after being given the DWC by ASA. Strange, huh?
Hi, Try with a default plane
Hi,
Try with a default plane and see what happens for you.

Still An Issue
Jim:
Flew same flight with default B734 and experienced sudden shifts, back and forth, in airspeed. Without a wind indication on the EHSI, I couldn't tell whether it's a sudden shift in wind direction or a complete dropout of wind, followed by an equally sudden reinsertion of wind, both of which I experienced as noted above. I'm trying to remember back when I first experienced this. ASA had previously worked fine with my PMDG addons, up until about B406 or 422, can't be sure which. Is the minimum requirement still FSUIPC 3.85? I'm wondering if it would help to revert back from 3.90?

Hi, With B431 this should not
Hi,
With B431 this should not be happening with FSUIPC set to default settings and weather settings Off. Can you verify that is what you are using?
Thanks,

FSUIPC Settings
Jim:
Yes, before starting the flight, I opened FSUIPC and clicked the box "Weather Settings Off" plus the box for "Clear All Weather" then the "OK" box, and closed FS9. Opened ASA and after initialization, ensured DWC was selected on the Wind Options page and saved. Processed the flight in ASA, then started FS9; got the "ASA initial weather depiction complete!" and away we went. My FSUIPC is a registered copy of Version 3.90 downloaded from the schriatti.com website.

P.S. Rolled back to FSUIPC 3.85 using FSUIPC smoothing and ASA DWC off. Had a picture perfect, 8.7-hour flight from Milan-Malpensa to Washington-Dulles in the PMDG MD11 with exact weather depiction every step of the way. Go figure.
