ASA (any build) loses contact with FSX
Is anyone able to offer ideas why I can run ASX perfectly, but find ASA (build 422) virtually unplayable? ASX weather streams smoothly and integrates seamlessly with FSX, but ASA weather periodically vanishes completely - either after a few minutes or on pausing FSX. It occasionally reappears, but mostly I find myself suddenly in clear skies with a few tiny Microsoft clouds littered about. I don't have this problem with ASX at all. There is no log of any unexpected event in the ASA logging screen, and ASA continues to run in the background; it's as though ASA becomes disconnected periodically from FSX, whereas ASX never does.
So, whatever is different between ASA and ASX is probably the difference that my game does not agree with. Has anyone else experienced (and hopefully resolved) this problem? I hope so. Right now, I've uninstalled ASA and reverted to ASX. It works beautifully - it just lacks some of the nice-to-have features of ASA.
My system specs - if of any help:
FSX SP1 and Acceleration
E8500 dual-core @ 3.13Mhz
4Gb DDR2 RAM
nVidia GTX260 890Mb
Vista Ultimate 64-bit
FSX, ASX and ASA running on WD Velociraptor HDD @ 10,000RPM
Forgot to mention:Refreshing
Two things I forgot to mention:
(1) With build 431, I experienced cloud-popping and a rather heavy framerate hit, but the weather stayed around
(2) Refreshing ASA's weather doesn't fix the problem. Restarting ASA is the only way I can force weather to reappear.
Hi, With B431 the weather
Hi,
With B431 the weather stays or doesn't stay for you? You reported 2 opposite results.

My apologies Jim - my post
My apologies Jim - my post was stupidly confusing.
With ASA B431, I couldn't use 'streaming' mode (my framerates dipped to 7--15fps), but historic weather (if applied globally) was absolutely fine - a big improvement on the original ASA build for me. But without streaming available, I'm only seeing partial benefit of ASA.
I recently had a HDD failure, which meant a complete clean reinstall of everything. When it came to reinstalling FSX and ASA, I noticed update 422 for the first time. I applied 422 instead of B431 in the hope that I could have streaming again. However, 422 simply seems to disconnect from FSX (no error messages). ASA is still running in Windows, but the weather vanishes completely from FSX.
I've returned to ASX for now. ASX streams perfectly and the weather stays in FSX too. The framerate impact of ASX is also very small (I can run with ASX at 27-35fps). Therefore, my problems are all in ASA only. Hopefully, I've explained a bit more clearly this time.
Hi, Try setting ASA to run on
Hi,
Try setting ASA to run on your second core. Also in ASA try with Force High Priority Processes set both ways and see.
Thanks,
