ASA on Networked PC - Change configuration / file locations

Hi All,

I have tried to find the answer in the forum but came up with nothing useful

I have installed ASA on a second PC which is networked and communicates with the sim via WideFS / FSUIPC.
That works just fine but because some of the required files are not on the second PC it does take a very long time to start ASA to the point where it actually starts getting the Wx and so on. Depending on what the network is doing 5 or more minutes.

During the first start after install ASA asked where those file are located and continued on after both locations were identified.

Is it possible to copy these files to the #2 PC once into a new location and then reset the file path for ASA to look on the HD of the #2 PC ???

And if yes what is the best way to do that ??

Thanks in advance and thanks for a great addition to FS.

Hi, FS04 or FSX? ASA should

Hi,

FS04 or FSX?

ASA should ask for those file locations one time only and then remembers their locations for the future. If ASA is asking every time, then something is not correct on your systems.

Moving or copying the files wouldn't do anything because FS needs those files to run.

Yes, it may take 5-6 minutes for ASA to complete, and this is pretty normal. It has nothing to do with your network or those file locations.

Hi Jim, I use both versions

Hi Jim,

I use both versions of the sim but mostly FS9 at this point.
And no ASA does not ask for the file location anymore, but I would like to have them on the same PC as ASA and re-do that
configuration step.
In other words, if I copy the files that ASA needs to PC#2 how do I make ASA ask me one more time ???

I had originally installed ASA on a 3rd PC which had a complete installation of FS9 and FSX on it's own drive...and it loads much faster there.

If I understood the EULA correct that is ok to do as long as only one of them is running at any time and both are owned by me.

Hi, You cannot move or copy

Hi,

You cannot move or copy any files.

The ASA license is to have ASA active on one computer only. It can be installed on the other computers, but must be run in Offline Mode on the others. So one day you cannot run ASA on #1, then the next day on #2 and then then next week on #3, all in Online mode. If you do this you will run out of license activations and ASA will not run on any of your computers.

Clarification

Ok maybe I am not explaining this properly...

#1 PC = FS PC which runs nothing but the Simulator.
#2 PC = WideFS+ASA or ASV6.5+FSGarmin+RC4+VA Software
#3 PC = WideFS+Voice Apps such as Ventrilo or FSInn/SquawkBox.

When I first installed ASA I did so on #2 PC and ran it there one time. Since that PC has an old unused installation of FS9 / FSX on it's intrenal HD ASA simply found those and is using them for what ever it needed to start up.

Since then I have installed ASA on the #3 PC where I really like it better, but this PC does not have an instance of FS9 or FSX and there ASA asked for the network location of certain FS files.
It does take a lot longer to get up and running on this PC than on #2 where the FS files are on the same PC.

I don't plan on running ASA on the #2 PC again online or offline so there should be no issue with the activation attempts.

All I wanted to do is copy the required FS files to the #3 PC disk and then let ASA know where to find them instead of looking through the network.

Hi, If you pointed ASA to the

Hi,

If you pointed ASA to the files on PC#2 instead of on PC#1, then you never had ASA weather in FS on PC#1, I don't think.

So now if you pointed ASA to to some copied files on PC#3 you still wouldn't get ASA weather on PC#1.

You need to follow the networking chapter of ASA and properly point ASA to the needed shared folders on PC#1. If all we needed to do was to copy over some files, we would have had those directions in ASA a long time ago.

Thanks ..I guess

Since the Wx did actually change in FS9 and FSX on the first test I did with PC#2 it seems that once the basic files are loaded, what ever they are the FSUIPC connection still sends the downloaded Wx to the proper place on the actual FS PC.

That's why I asked the question in the first place and snippy replies such as "If all we needed to do was to copy over some files, we would have had those directions in ASA a long time ago." don't really do much for anyone.

Cheers

Hi,

It's working, but it's not working correctly for both FS9 and FSX because the wrong files are being modified.
